Privacy Notice
I write this site and run it myself, so there is no privacy department here. This is the plain version of what I collect, why I collect it, and how to make me stop.
Who is collecting this
Kurt Wuckert Jr., 6586 W Atlantic Ave #1061, Delray Beach, FL 33446. You can reach me through the contact form on this site or by replying to any newsletter email. I read both.
What I collect when you subscribe
When you sign up for The Kurt Letter, I store your email address, which form you signed up from, your IP address, your browser user agent, the page that referred you, and the time you signed up. That row is my record that you asked for the newsletter.
Every time an issue goes out I also keep one delivery record for it: your address, the message id my mail provider handed back, and whether it sent, is still queued, or failed. That is how a send that stops halfway can finish without mailing you the same issue twice.
What the site collects otherwise
I run my own analytics instead of a third party tracker. Those events record what happened, such as a page view or a search, plus the page URL, the referring page, your browser user agent, and a random visitor and session id kept in your own browser. Analytics events do not store your IP address. My server sees it long enough to rate limit the endpoint and then lets it go.
If you talk to Lil Kerty, the chat assistant on this site, the conversation is logged. That log keeps both sides of the messages, the page you were on, a random visitor and session id, your IP address, and your browser user agent. Treat that chat as recorded, not private.
If you use the contact form, your name, email address, and message are emailed to my inbox.
Why I collect it
To send you The Kurt Letter, to prove you asked for it, to stop spam and abuse of my forms, and to understand which articles people actually read.
Who else touches it
Supabase stores the data. Resend delivers the newsletter. Vercel hosts and serves the site. Anthropic generates the chat assistant's replies. Each of them is a processor working on my instructions, for the purposes listed above and nothing else.
What I never do
I do not sell your email address. I do not rent it, trade it, or hand it to anybody for their marketing. Not now, not later.
How long I keep it
Your subscriber record stays until you unsubscribe. After that I keep a suppression record with your address, your status, how that address left the list, and the dates, so that no future import can put you back on the list. The delivery records stay with the issues they belong to, and they go when you ask to be deleted. Chat logs delete themselves after 14 days. Analytics events delete themselves after 90 days.
How to leave, and how to be deleted
Every newsletter issue carries an unsubscribe link and the one-click unsubscribe headers your mail client can act on by itself. If your client shows its own unsubscribe button, pressing it takes that address off the list on the spot. If you use the link at the bottom of the email instead, it opens a single page showing your address masked, with one button on it, and pressing that button takes you off the list immediately. No login, no account, no reason required, and nothing to fill in either way. An address entered in a signup form is stored as pending, with the IP address and browser string of the request, until it is confirmed or purged after 30 days.
To have your data deleted, reply to any newsletter email or use the contact form and ask. I honor it within 30 days, usually the same week. The delivery records for your address go with everything else. The only thing I keep back is the suppression record, because that is what keeps you off the list.

You can withdraw your consent the same two ways everybody else can: the unsubscribe link in any email, or a message to me. There is no separate process, nothing to fill in, and no cost.
If this notice changes, the effective date at the top changes with it.
